INVITATION FOR PLAYER, COACH, AND MANAGER APPLICATIONS FOR THE
TEAM SASK PROGRAM 2015
The Saskatchewan Lacrosse Association is inviting all Lacrosse players, coaches, and volunteers to apply/volunteer to become a part of the Team Sask program for the 2015 Lacrosse season.
The Team Sask program consists of three Box Lacrosse teams (Pee Wee, Bantam, and Midget) and two Field Lacrosse teams (U15 and U18) that will represent the SLA and Saskatchewan at the CLA Minor Nationals. The Team Sask program is a great way for Lacrosse players across Saskatchewan to be trained by top Coaches in the provinces and to compete against the best minor Lacrosse players across Canada. It is also a great way for Lacrosse players to meet other Lacrosse players across Saskatchewan and create lifelong friendships and memories. Nationals this year will be held during the following times and at the following locations:
Pee Wee and Midget Box Nationals: Whitby, Ontario from August 1st – 9th, 2015
Bantam Box Nationals: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan from July 21st – 26th, 2015
U15 and U18 Field Nationals: Halifax, Nova Scotia from August 28th – 30th, 2015
Player try outs/evaluations will take place April 25th in Moose Jaw, and April 26th in Saskatoon for both Box and Field Lacrosse. Times and location will be sent out at a later date. For more information on the applications please see below.
Player applications will be accepted until the first day of try outs, however if not enough applicants sign up for a certain camp (North or South) by April 15th, the specific sector may choose to cancel that tryout camp. A $60 registration fee will need to be paid before the player starts their first try out. The SLA can accept cash, cheque or credit card payments. (Please note for all credit card payments an extra 5% banking fee will be added onto the final cost). The try out fee is to cover the cost of facilities and equipment for the tryout camps to be held and any left over money will be given to the teams to help cover team expenses. If someone wants to try out for the Team Sask program but cannot attend try outs due to circumstances out of their control they will need to contact the SLA office and make arrangements to be evaluated at a different time. Try out applications and fees will still need to be submitted to the SLA Office.
Coach applications will be accepted until February 23rd, 2015. All Team Sask Coaches will need to meet all CLA certification requirements prior to Nationals which means they will need to be Competitive Introduction (CPI) in training, trained, or certified depending on what coaching year they are in. First year CPI Coaches need to be “in training” (have attended a CPI clinic), second year CPI Coaches will need to be “trained” (have attended the CPI clinic previously and submitted their workbook), and third year or more CPI coaches will need to be “certified” (attend a CPI clinic previously, submitted their workbook, have completed all their modules and been evaluated). Please note there are no differences in requirements for Head Coach or Assistant Coaches. The CLA now requires all CPI coaches to have completed their Community Development (CMD) training. If you are a CPI coach that doesn’t have their CMD training you can choose to either attend a one day CMD clinic (will not need to complete a workbook) OR challenge the clinic and complete the CMD workbook. The SLA office will work with all Coaches to ensure they have their appropriate certification and make any processes as smooth as possible. Selected Coaches are also expected to be at all try outs to evaluate the players. If the SLA doesn’t receive any Coaching applications for a particular team, then that team will not attend Nationals.
Team managers will work with the Provincial Coordinators and the SLA Executive Director to do administration planning of the teams. Applications will be accepted until February 23rd, 2015. Some of the duties of the Team Manager are:
- Filling out sizing forms for all Team Sask clothing
- Working with a Team Treasurer and Provincial Coordinator to collect team fees.
- Assist Coaches
- Filling out different registration forms
- Help snack parents at Nationals
- Create agendas and itineraries for their team for during Nationals
- Ensure all team activities are approved by the SLA Office for insurance purposes.
- Create rooming lists and submit flying lists if applicable.
If no applications are received for a specific team then that team will not attend Nationals.
All Managers and Coaches travel and accommodation expenses at Nationals will be covered by the team.
Parents want to volunteer but don’t want to take on a Manager or Coaching role? There are still plenty of other volunteer opportunities for the Team Sask program such as Snack Parents, Treasures etc. The Team Sask program relies on volunteers and all the generous hard work and effort they put in for the players to have these opportunities.
All applications forms are attached are available on the SLA website www.sasklacrosse.net Please send all applications to the SLA Provincial Office by any of the following ways:

The SLA hopes to see all Saskatchewan Lacrosse players come and try out for the Team Sask program to take part in our most elite minor program and thanks all of the volunteers in advance that will ensure the success of this program for the 2015 season! 2015 TEAM SASK TRY OUT DATES
For the 2014-2015 Lacrosse season the Board of Directors has decided to have the Team Sask Box and Team Sask Field tryouts held on the same weekend. This decision was made so only one weekend had to be blacked out for tournaments for try outs and didn’t interfere with any tournaments as this was a big concern last year. This will also give Coaches a chance to watch players doing both Box and Field tryouts which is particularly helpful for players who wish to try out for both Box and Field teams.
This year the try outs will be held on April 25th and 26th. The South Camp will be held in Moose Jaw on Saturday, April 25th and the North and Final Camp will be held in Saskatoon on Sunday, April 26th. Box tryouts will be held in the mornings with Field tryouts being held in the afternoons. Specific locations and times will be sent out once they are determined. Coaches will then meet after the try outs and select their roster and then contact players.
Applications will be accepted from January 15th to April 15th and the Office is looking at having an online registration option, more details on that will be sent out closer to January 15th. A word/PDF registration will also be sent out closer to January 15th that can be filled out and mailed in for those who would rather not do the online option. Try Out fees will be $60 which goes towards covering the cost of facilities for the try outs.
If you have any questions or more information please contact Bridget Pottle, SLA Executive Director, at 306.780.9216/1.866.780.9216 ext. 1 or via email at email@example.com.
